Intermodal Innovation offer an almost unique design and operation consultancy service. There can be no doubt that the development and subsequent standardisation of the shipping container has had the most significant effect on the cost of shipping and transit times.
That was over 30 years ago – So what happens next?
The honest truth is that the only real way that transport costs can be reduced is by continuing to pressurize the transport operators to accept lower margins or to find a more efficient method of moving your product.
Although the number of companies entering into all sectors of the transport industry means that it is sometimes possible to reduce their margins, this is by its very nature an unstable and short term solution.
This leaves more prudent operators with only one real option – to find more efficient ways of moving their product. This is where we can assist.
We can simply take your existing process and suggest operation, technical and financial changes that will generate savings. Or we can take your own concepts for improving your process, analyse their feasibility and develop ideas to put them into action. Realistically, this is the area where most of our business is generated, after all you know your business best and you are the most obvious source of inspirational concepts to take it forward.
So are you just another set of consultants?
Yes and No. If you want us to be consultants we can of course provide those services. However, we are a little different in that we will suggest operational, organisational and financial changes (just like any other consultants) but we will also design and source any unique specialised equipment that you may need for the project.
How do you get paid?
Just as every new concept is different, every project is different. There are three main options with the exact option or mix of options being agreed before the start of the project. The options are:-
Payment on a straight consultancy basis for an agreed fee (In this case, once the project has been completed you would be free to source any equipment that may be required from the manufacturer of your choice.
As a proportion of any equipment that you may purchase as a result of the project (obviously we would need to be sure that there was a strong likelihood of equipment being purchased as a result of this project).
Payment as a percentage of savings generated as a result of the overall project (This is a much more complex option to format and agree but it may be of some use to a limited number of customers.)
Where are you prepared to work?
We are prepared to work almost anywhere however our reports and recommendations will only be available in English. In the event that we are working with companies and locations where the first language is not English, we would expect the client to make available an English Speaking member of staff to assist us.
